CHOSHU TSUBA SIGNED TOMOKIYO
This is a very nice Choshu tsuba signed Yaji Ichihei Tomokiyo Saku. Tomokiyo became head of the family in 1722. He worked mainly in sukashi plates such as this tsuba. This tsuba is wonderfully carved in the form of a waterwheel hard at work. It is a large tsuba measuring 3 3/8 inches or 8.5 cm round. According to Bob Haynes, there was also a later generation by the same name who worked around 1825-1850. I am not sure as to which generation made this tsuba as I have not, as yet, submitted it for papers. It is in excellent condition and the detail is striking.
