This is a very attractive Higo Koshirae with a star same saya, beautiful Higo Iron tsuba, the tsuka is wrapped in an older style using a simple leather strip and the menuki proudly mounted. The menuki are of shakudo and are of a leopard and a tiger in full flight. The fuchi and kashira are also of typical Higo design. They are made of iron with a delicate gold inlaid pattern.
This koshirae is in excellent condition considering its age which probably to the 19th century. It has seen a lot of use by its last Samurai owner. The saya shows old repairs which were expertly done many years ago. Of course, this is what gives it charm. It will hold a blade with a fairly shallow torii sori and a length of about 26 inches. Of course, it will make a great decoration as it is.
