We present here a lovely pair of Soten school fuchi and kashira.  The detail of the carving is superb and the condition is excellent.  The kashira depicts a Samurai on horseback waging war against two Samurai in a boat.  The battle taking place on the river.  The background is done in a very fine shakudo nanako and the waves are done in gold with tiny silver dots representing spray.  The horse and the boat are done in shakudo with gold trim for the boat and gold armor for the horse.  The three Samurai and their armor are done in a combination of gold and shakudo for their bodies and armor with their faces being made of copper and silver.  The outside length of the length of this kashira is 3.4 cm or 1 5/16 inches.  The outside width is 1.7 cm or 11/16 inches.

The fuchi is matching with two boats each containing two Samurai.  Their boats are racing across the river through the waves with pine trees depicted on the bank of the river.  The design of the Samurai, river, and boats matches the kashira perfectly.  The back side of the fuchi is done in a very fine shakudo nanako depicting the river bank and the pine trees. The outside length of this fuchi is 3.95 cm or 1 9/16 inches.  The outside width is 2.4 cm or 7/8 inches.

These two pieces are some very fine miniature art done in exquisite detail and beauty.  They would be a welcomed addition to any collection as they are or would look outstanding mounted on a sword.
