About Nihonto.com

My name is Fred Weissberg and I have been collecting and/or dealing in Japanese Swords and related items for over forty years.  I am a member of the NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai) in Japan, a member of the Board of Directors of the American Branch of the NBTHK American Branch.  I am also Vice President and a member of the board of directors of the NCJSC (Northern California Japanese Sword Club). Please feel free to visit the NCJSC website

The study of Japanese swords is a lifelong adventure. After forty years, I am just beginning to really understand the depth and intricacies of this field of study. I can promise all who take up this hobby, however, that it is well worth it and you will find that it will be time well spent.

In 1998, I founded the internet company Nihonto.com.  Nihonto.com is a commercial and educational website dealing in high quality Japanese swords, armor, and related items.  It is one of the first companies to bring these items to the worldwide web and has been doing business internationally and domestically ever since.  This website also contains a large body of educational information on Japanese swords, sword history, sword smiths, and other related topics.

Because Nihonto.com is a commercial website,  we want to ensure that our customers are completely satisfied with their purchases.  Unless otherwise noted in the description, all items are sold with a three-day inspection period and seven day return period.  If the buyer is not satisfied with his or her purchase, he/she merely has to notify us by email within three days of receipt of the item that they wish to return it.  No reason need be given.  Once the item has been returned undamaged or unaltered, a full refund will be given.

On a personal note, I am always glad to share my knowledge and help anyone learn about the swords, fittings, etc. that they own. Looking at swords and related items increases my knowledge and there is no substitute for research as a learning tool. Thus, I gladly help people on an informal basis at no charge or obligation.

Please enjoy this web site. It is not intended to be an all-encompassing source of information on Japanese swords and related items. Rather, hopefully it will present enough information to provide a few basics and lead to more in depth discussions on specific subjects or about specific swords, fittings, armor etc. I look forward to hearing from anybody and everybody about this most interesting of subjects, THE JAPANESE SWORD.
