Nihonto.com is pleased to present a recently acquired kozuka of the Kaga Gotô school.  In our opinion this kozuka dates to the Edo period (18th-19th) century or possible earlier.  It measures as follows: A length of 3 13/16 inches or 9.69 cm and a width of 9/16 inches or 1.43 cm.  The base of the obverse is shakudo nanako and the reverse has a heavy gold application.  The nanako is extremely fine and well executed.  A solid gold work of art has been incorporated by the artist on the obverse.  It is just stunning.  The design of this gold work is a shishi lion/dog standing on a large Kôro dai (stand).  A Kôro is an incense burner.  The condition of this kozuka, especially, the gold work is excellent and vibrant.  This kozuka comes in a custom made fitted wooden box and is accompanied by Tokubetsu Hozon kodogu papers from the NBTHK that were issued in 2018 that attribute this kozuka to the Kaga Gotô school.
