Here we present a pair of mice menuki that are almost too cute for words. They are made of shakudo and the detail created by the artist will soften your heart (or that of a loved one). These mice are from the Mito school and the artist painstakingly carved the detail right down to the fur on their backs. Under a lens, the details are extraordinary. What is really interesting is that they were not carved in a simple silhouette, the heads of the mice are slightly turned outward and both of the golden eyes can be seen under close observation. One is holding some food in both hands and enjoying same. The other seems to be holding something (a nut perhaps?) under its belly. The length of both of these little guys is approximately 1.35 inches or 3.5 cm and the width is approximately 0.5 inches or 1.27 cm. They come in a custom made fitted wooden box and are accompanied by NBTHK Hozon papers attesting to their quality and the validity of the Mito school attribution.
