Nihonto.com is very pleased to present this truly outstanding mitokoromono (three item set of fittings) by the Gotô trained artist Morimura Atsutaka (森邨厚隆). Atsutaka was a student of Gotô Shinjô and he was trained in the classic Gotô style. He worked around 1845 in Edo. This set consists of a shibuichi kozuka done in extremely fine and beautiful nanako with gold highlights depicting a plum branch done in shakudo, gold, and silver. The reverse is done in solid gold with the signature inscribed. This kozuka is signed Morimura Atsutaka (Kao) 森邨厚隆 (花押). The accompanying kogai is also crafted in shibuichi with a plum branch which is also done in shakudo, gold , and silver. Also like the kozuka, The reverse of the kogai is done in a solid gold and it bears the same signature. It is also signed Morimura Atsutaka (Kao) 森邨厚隆 (花押). Completing the mitokoromono is an unsigned set of plum branch menuki done in shakudo, gold, and silver to match the other two items.
The overall quality of this set is truly outstanding. The nanako on the kozuka and kogai is unbelievably fine giving it an almost “wet” appearance. The condition of all of the pieces of this set is perfect with no dings, rubbing, or other signs of wear. It is as if they just came out of Morimura’s workshop.
The NBTHK has awarded this mitokoromono set Tokubetsu Hozon certification attesting to the authenticity of all three pieces as well as attesting to its quality and current condition.
